The story of Wreck it Ralph is the story of “A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.” (Note that is right from IMDB) he wreaks havoc in the arcade around him. There is a historical precedence within this world for not doing exactly what he is trying to do. “Your not going Turbo are you?”
One of the most incredible parts about either of the “Monsters” movies is that this is a story at its core about scaring little kids. Yet, even the youngest of my kids with me (6) was not scared of the movie. Mike and James does some things that really could be scary to kids, but Pixar takes those moments and kind of pokes fun at them, giving you something to laugh at instead of being scared of.
It is that they didn’t tell us a new story. That was why people went back to movies to see Star Trek Films even when the last one didn’t do so great. They went expecting a bold new world seeking our new life and new civilizations and boldly going where no man has gone before.
here is the thing, in a universe as big as the Star Trek Universe, really any universe that has as much room to play in like that, why would you retell a story.
