My son planted a story Idea in my head this morning, and I thought it would be fun to follow up with it. I would love to hear your ideas, so please feel free to share.
The basic idea was what if the 6 fingered man had not killed Inigo’s father? Of course you start out with his traditional greeting, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya, I hate my father. Prepare to die!” I can think of a lot of ways to go from here, but I won’t spoil the fun and tell you my idea yet.
I thought it was an interesting twist on the original. Obviously this would be fan fic, but a fun idea none the less. Have fun, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I have a little bit of a story in my head that I will try to get to over lunch and I will post the results here.
Young Inigo stays in the “Montoya and Son” sword-making business, planning to take it over when he grows up. But his father dies in a buggy accident when he’s 18, and the village makes Inigo move. Fortunately he finds employment as a galley grunt on the ship of a merchantman where his first major accomplishment is to increase the quality of the coffee . . .
That is great, oh wait, what I think I have heard this story… Does the ship seem to posses some kind of Magic powers to protect the crew?
Magic powers to protect the crew! What a great idea! This will surely come in handy when they come across the Dread Pirate Roberts. On the other hand, this is starting to sound familiar . . .
well sometimes the best story is an old one. What if Roberts had not retires to Patagonia. I am thinking very rich bitter old man.
Here’s one to boggle the mind: if the Dread Pirate Roberts never leaves survivors, then doesn’t that mean that dear, sweet Westley has been killing people for last five years? Otherwise, wouldn’t people be talking about how he’s gone all soft?
I think you could write a prequel that follows Westley for those five years. It could be all dark and full of moral conflicts and stand as a book on its own (not just fan fic).
it certainly could. I like that idea, and I say run with it.
I could also see the 6 fingered man taking Inigo with him along with the sword and training him… possibly telling him false tales of his father… lots of story possibility there… some what Darth Vader but in reverse.
agreed that is kind of where my mind was, but I was going even darker. Why my stories have this dark tint to them lately I don’t know but they do. No mushy love stories for me.
My idea definitely could angle dark, or not so much… again we seem to be thinking alike π
Not to worry, you know what they say about great minds. π
